Digital Youth and Media Appropriations, Rewind

For two years ago we (several participant organizations from 9 + 1 different countries) concluded the project MEDIAPPRO with a feeling that we «found something». Now it's time for the University of South California and the University of Berkeley, California, to confirm that those results were not only valid for old Europe but also for the Brave New Worlds (in fact our friends from Canada at the Universities of Montréal and of Sherbrooke had already stated the same). So, how long are the educational authorities of our states going to blind over these facts before they move over to some more pro-active policies, like developing Media Literacy above frontiers, as a sign of mature and responsable perception of the existing global media contexts, instead of taking small ICT pills against local anxieties of a so called 1st world surroundings?
Maybe it is time to move from ICT multimiracle landscapes to Media Literacy reality shows! Shall we try it at the next EUROMEDUC Faro seminar, or at the final EUROMEDUC congress in Bellaria? See you there!

  1. Hi Vitor :)

It's an interesting and important post. The metaphor of "small ICT pills against local anxieties" being taken by educational authorities instead of establishing pro-active policies is EXTREMELY ACCURATE. Congratulations! I'm taking your point as you've hit the bull's-eye.

    Good luck :)
